Local SEO Case Study for an Australian Painting Business

Recorded at the end of the sprint.

This was not a recovery project. The Australian painting business already had meaningful search visibility. The engagement focused on protecting what was working, strengthening weaker service areas, improving measurement, and identifying the clearest priorities for the next phase.

The business entered the sprint with established assets and an existing local search presence.

  • An established painting business website
  • A live Google Business Profile
  • Defined target suburbs and service areas
  • Existing visibility for several painting-related searches
  • Multiple priority painting services
  • Historical data available for comparison

The initial review showed that performance was not equally strong across every service and measurement area.

  • Uneven visibility across priority services
  • Weaker roof-painting visibility in Google Maps
  • No dedicated epoxy and garage-floor service page
  • On-page and internal-link improvement opportunities
  • Citation and business-information inconsistencies to review
  • Incomplete conversion tracking for leads and revenue

The work was organised around practical improvements that could be completed safely within eight weeks.

  • Establish clear organic and local-ranking baselines
  • Protect areas that were already performing well
  • Strengthen weaker service visibility
  • Improve Google Business Profile and website foundations
  • Document implementation and performance indicators
  • Prepare an evidence-led 90-day roadmap

The scope was prioritised according to evidence, available access, implementation risk, and the work that could be completed responsibly within the agreed eight-week period.

  • Recorded local keyword and map-grid visibility baselines
  • Reviewed the Google Business Profile and priority services
  • Checked business information across key profile elements
  • Identified stronger and weaker painting-service areas
  • Reviewed website, profile, and reporting access
  • Established the initial measurement framework
  • Reviewed priority titles, metadata, canonicals, and internal links
  • Improved selected website and service-page elements
  • Continued Google Business Profile service cleanup
  • Reviewed profile content and customer-review activity
  • Checked citation and business-information consistency
  • Continued keyword and Google Maps tracking
  • Reviewed Google Search Console and sitemap status
  • Checked GA4 and conversion-tracking availability
  • Verified indexing and important technical foundations
  • Monitored organic rankings and local visibility
  • Reviewed priority painting-service page opportunities
  • Identified the epoxy and garage-floor content gap
  • Completed final website and profile quality checks
  • Reviewed internal links and the enquiry path
  • Checked technical SEO, page speed, and schema basics
  • Compared final rankings, map visibility, and Search Console data
  • Documented completed, pending, and client-dependent work
  • Delivered the final report and prioritised 90-day roadmap

The work above reflects the documented engagement. Larger development, design, content-production, and ongoing monthly SEO tasks were not treated as automatically included.

Local keyword tracking and map-grid data were reviewed alongside the organic search figures. The results showed a strong overall position, while also highlighting weaker services that required further attention.

The sprint did not treat every possible SEO task as equally urgent. The final roadmap focused on the opportunities most strongly supported by the available search, ranking, map-grid, website, and business data.

The strongest identified content opportunity was a dedicated epoxy and garage-floor service page, supported by relevant internal links and clear enquiry pathways.

  • Confirm the priority services and target locations
  • Build a dedicated epoxy and garage-floor service page
  • Connect it to relevant existing service pages
  • Strengthen internal links and quote pathways
  • Track impressions, rankings, clicks, and enquiries after launch

Roof-painting map visibility improved, but the data still showed room for continued optimisation rather than a completed opportunity.

  • Continue local keyword and map-grid monitoring
  • Review roof-painting page relevance and internal links
  • Add suitable project photos when available
  • Maintain accurate Google Business Profile services
  • Review progress across priority suburbs and service areas

Better measurement and stronger local signals would make future decisions easier and help separate meaningful progress from normal ranking movement.

  • Complete or refine conversion tracking
  • Monitor Search Console and GA4 performance
  • Continue citation and NAP consistency checks
  • Pursue relevant local and industry link opportunities
  • Reassess priority pages using updated performance data

The documented data shows that search visibility, engagement, tracked rankings, and one weaker Google Maps term improved during the comparison period. It also shows how the available evidence was used to identify practical priorities for the next phase.

Google Search Console data was compared across the selected sprint and comparison periods. Local keyword rankings and map-grid visibility were also reviewed using the available tracking data. Completed implementation, technical checks, and identified opportunities were documented alongside the performance figures.

A tracked row represents one configured keyword and tracking combination. This may include different locations, devices, or search variations. For that reason, 42 rows in the Top 3 and 48 rows in the Top 10 should not be interpreted as 42 or 48 entirely unique keywords.

Share of Local Voice is a map-grid visibility indicator. It estimates how prominently a business appears across the tracked geographic grid for a selected search term. The figure can change according to search location, competition, grid settings, and normal Google Maps movement.

The data shows that performance improved during the comparison period, but it does not prove that every movement resulted from one individual SEO update. Search visibility can also be influenced by competition, demand, Google updates, previous work, seasonality, and changes in the mix of recorded searches.

Complete conversion tracking and reliable lead-to-revenue data were not available during the sprint. It would therefore be inaccurate to claim a confirmed increase in enquiries or revenue. The case study reports only the performance indicators that could be supported by the available data.

No identical outcome can be promised. Results depend on the business’s starting position, location, competition, website, Google Business Profile, service mix, available access, implementation scope, and how quickly search engines process changes. The initial Local SEO Review is used to assess the most relevant priorities for each business.
